Abstract (EN)

SIZE EFFECT EVALUATION OF TESTS ON OVERREINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS (Ph.D Thesis) Çağatay Mehmet BELGİN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY June 2004 ABSTRACT Difficulties arise in determining the parameters of fracture mechanics in concrete due to the non-homogeneity and brittleness of concrete, and the existence of cracks. Concrete is the controlling component in failure of overreinforced concrete beams. Four point bending tests are carried out to determine the parameters of fracture mechanics in concrete. Results are evaluated by using Bazant, Carpinteri and modified Bazant models. Based on the comparisons, the best method for representing the observed behavior has been identified. The moment-curvature, stress-strain and load-vertical displacement variations of the beams are plotted and the impact of size effect on the charts were discussed.
