The economic conditions of İzmir in the period of Atatürk 1923-1938

The purpose to this research is to point out The Economic Conditions of Izmir in The Period of Atatürk. The city of Izmir, which was rescued from the captivity of Greek invasion in September 1922, would be an indicator of what could be done not only by her self but also newly established Turkish Republic. During the period of our research, the burn out and wrecked economical working centers of Izmir will be reconstructed and reutilized by the city economy. At the same duration active economic actors changed. We mentioned about the results while this change was taking place. At the end we gathered some data about how this change affected the economy of the city. Mean while, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's, who was the most powerful political leader of the period, economical policies were scrutinized by our research. Most important bases for this research were City Year Books, Izmir City Statistics, Izmir City Guides, Government Year Books, Trade Year Books, Turkish Economic Periodical, Izmir Trade and Industrial Chamber's Periodical, British Embassy's Reports on Economical Conditions in Turkey. In addition to these we also utilized the local and country wide press. Ahenk ve Anadolu newspapers are the most important ones that we used. While forwarding on the lines illuminated by the researches made by our instructors and researchers, we also investigated and evaluated the memorial novels. We used the main economical opus of the Economy Science as bases to our evaluations without mentioning in the footnotes. Our research was composed of six parts: First Part: Factors Affecting on Izmir's Economy Second Part: Agriculture, forestry and raising livestock Third Part: Energy resources, industries and mining Fourth Part: Transportation and communication Fifth Part: Finance and banking Sixth Part: Trade and socio-economical situation In the last five parts of the research, Izmir's Economy in the Period of Atatürk was scrutinized by sectors. Due to this is an economical research we had to use statistical data often. In order to be reached easily by the readers to these data, we submitted them in tables
