Abstract (EN)
Weaving is one of the oldest production methods and fields of handicraft with a deeply rooted and rich past which determines the history and forms the cultural structure of a society. Weaving, which changes and develops in line with the needs of humankind, has always been a tool of expression forsocieties. The need for use has brought out several fabric variations and constantly changing an developing fabric structures following experimental searches. In this study we handle weftpatterns fabrics both in the world and in Anatolia whose designs are formed via weftloop method by creating the look of a loop on the surface. The study is also a review on "WeftLoop"creating techniques, which is a traditional method, and the application of these techniques on bigger objects. The main purpose is primarily the use of a traditional technique in order to create an artistic object by weaving. It is in other words, the analysis of the form and tissue forming aspects of the tecnique by carrying out experimental studies and determination of how to contribute the designer in terms of visual quality and structural creativity. The weftloop weavings are known with different names. It is referred to as "weftloop", "weftlooping", "weftloop pile", "loopweave", "pile weave", "pibiones (grapeberries)", "boutonné,(buttons)", "boutonnepatterning" or pointboutonne in the world whereas it is defined as; "çekmeli","çeki/çekki/çekili/çekkili", "kuskuse", "çimdik/çultar" in Anatolia. In this study the examples of a "weftloop technique" in the history have been traced and the process steps to apply this technique have been handled and experimental practised. 40 pieces from the museums in different parts of the world and 16 pieces of field search samples in Anatolia have been studied and current samples of woven fabric in the world and in Anatolia; grouping charts, analysis tables and comparison tables have been introduced by drawing and structural conclusions. Technical tests have been performed on the surfaces of these traditional weaves by using new in order to get similar appearences. Artistic weave has been obtained after a series of experimental searches based on an aesthetic approach which brings traditional technics and new thread together.
