Evaluation of Turkey's position according to the EU motorways of the sea concept

Abstract (EN)

Motorways of the Sea (MoS); is a project aiming to improve existing maritime links, introduce new intermodal maritime based logistics chains (not only in the EU but also with third countries), reducing road congestion through modal shift, and improvement of the accessibility of peripheral regions and island regions in Europe. The aim of the research is to analyze process of emergence and implementation of the MoS, to determine Turkey's current status, and to make recommendations for future activities in this area for Turkey. To this end; EU Trans European Transport acquis, major policy documents were examined in particular for maritime transport, ports and MoS. The development of MoS, it's process of adaptation in TEN-T guidelines, financial programs to support the MoS, and sample projects were analyzed. In the application section of this research, Turkey's Comprehensive Network Ports, which were pursuant to MoS were identified according to the criteria set out in the TEN-T Guidelines, and suggestions put forward for the determination of Core Networks Ports in Turkey. Proposals put forward for new Ro-Ro links, coherent with the Trans European Transport Policy and MoS requirements, between Tukey and EU, cost benefit analysis were made for those proposed Ro-Ro links.
