Abstract (EN)
The present study investigates the reflections of the Dardanelles Naval Battles, one of the most significant successes of the Turkish nation in history, in the Australian Press. The Turkish Army achieved a great success especially with the help of the Germans against the naval forces of the Entente, worldwide known as invincible. In this war, which went down in history as "Legendary Çanakkale", the Turkish army showed an example of unexpected struggle. Forced to enter the war as a result of the Black Sea Incident, the Ottoman Empire battled against the Allies (Allied forces) on the Çanakkale (Dardanelles) front for almost 10 months. The Allied forces, consisting of the British, French and Russian armies, appeared in the Dardanelles in November 1914 and blockaded the strait. The Turkish armies endeavored to protect the straits together with the two German battleships named Goeben and Breslau. The fiercest battle in the Dardanelles Naval Battles took place on 18 March 1915. Even though the Allied Navy, consisting of 56 warships, made a tremendous effort to force the Dardanelles, it finally retreated as a consequence of losing many of its battleships. Thus, the Dardanelles Naval Battles ended with the success of the Turkish army.
