Impacts of dovetail angle on tensile and compressing performance in log and trail joints

Abstract (EN)

This study will be carry out in order to find out effects of selecting different dovetail angles on the diagonal compression and diagonal tension strenght of dovetail joints; that is one of the log and trail joints techniques. For this purpose; in accordance with the principles of ASTM-D 1037, diagonal compression and diagonal tension experiments will apply to the joints those glue with (PVAc), and Polimar glue after being curved with an angle of 75°, 78°, 81° and 84° to the samples of Oriental beech, oak, and scotch pine. Wood species, joint technique and type of glue for the diagonal interaction, the highest compressive strength OB+P+II (0.5067 N/mm2), the lowest SP+D+ IV (0.208 N/mm2), the highest tensile strength of the diagonal of O+P+II (1.184 N/mm2), the lowest S+E+V (0.2687 N/mm2) was found. According to this study; preferring 78º dovetail joint could be advantages from the aspect of diagonal compression and diagonal tension performance in front on leg and trail joints.Key Words : Dovetail, log and trail joint, diagonal joint and tension performances, oriental beech, oak, scotch pine, pin angle, PVAc, D-VTKA
