Determination of weed species in nurseries in Aydın province and the evaluation of the efficacies of different weed control methods for controlling weeds in fig nurseries

This study conducted to determine the weeds causing problems in the nursery growing areas in Aydın province and the effect of some chemical and non-chemical applications on the weed management. In this study, olive processing waste, Cover crop, sawdust, metam sodium and dazomet used before fig planting. After fig planting black polyethylen and sawdust used as mulch material and soil covered with them. In plots used combination of trifluralin and fluazifop-p-butyl, trifluralin applied to soil before fig planting and after counting the first weed, fluazifop-p-butyl applied for problem grass weeds. The other herbicide glyphosate also applied after the counting of first weed. The experiments carried out at Adnan Menderes University, Agricultural Faculty, Research and Application Farm, in 2005-2006, as a design of randomized block. After survey studies, 20 weeds species were determined in summer survey. After winter survey, 47 weed species were determined. Evoluation of the applications on weeds in fig nursery area, using black polyethylen mulches has effective result for the long term management of both annual and perennial weeds. It is determined that the application of olive proccessing waste is only effected on annual weeds and its? effectiveness continued throughout the first three months after incorporated to the soil. Before the incorporated of the cover crop used in weed control, the cover crop decreased the density of perennial weeds especially Cyperus rotundus. The application of metam sodium and sawdust decreases the density of annual weed, particulary Portulaca oleracea. The application of dazomet has effective results on annual weeds in the first three months and its? effect on perennial weeds found good only first month. Glyphosate application has a hopeful effect against perennial weeds particulary Cyperus rotundus. Trifluralin+fluazifop-p-butyl application isn?t succesful in weed control.
