Transcription and evaluation of the memory that Aziz Samih İlter attributes to his daughter

One of the most utilized arguments in historical research is the memoirs, which are first or second-hand sources according to their content. With the belief that all kinds of documents belonging to the years 1900-1925, which is a very important period for the history of the Republic of Turkey, will contribute to our history, we scanned many sources, especially for the purpose of translating old scripts into the Latin alphabet. For this purpose, in 2022, we had studied the transcription of Aziz Samih İlter's memoir "Seyahatim Veyahud Hemşireme Mektuplar" as an undergraduate thesis. This time, we translated another memoir of the same author, which he attributed to his daughter Belkıs İlter, into the Latin alphabet. While the first study contains İlter's letters to his sister in direct proportion to its title, the second study has a different dimension. When the content of the work is analyzed, no sentence or word related to her daughter is found. The work includes the author's arrest in 1920 (Rumi 1336), his imprisonment in prison and his experiences in the few months after his release. In addition, in the memoirs, the effects of the events that left their mark on the history of that period, such as the signing of the Treaty of Sevres, the resignation of the Ferit Pasha Government, the activities of the Kuvayimilliye, the practices of the DivanıHarp, on the arrested people, the conditions of the detention center and the traces these conditions left on them, and The description of the DivanıHarp attitude towards the suspects is from İlter's perspective. In this context, the memories of a person who personally lived those days about the process covering the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment period of the Republic of Turkey will make valuable contributions to our history and will be instrumental in filling the gaps.
