Literal and cultural mobility in Bâdiye newspaper (1919)

The Newspaper of Bâdiye was released by the Turkish soldiers captured by English soldiers in the prison camp in Kuveysna, Egypt in 1919 during the First World War.Bâdiye was a newspaper issued on a daily basis. Because we do not have the first issue, we could not determine when the first issue was released. However, since the second issue of this daily published Newspaper was released on 31st October 1919, we can conclude that the first issue was released on 30th Ocotber 1919.The Bâdiye Newspaper continued its publication life with 60 issues in total in more than two months.Not all the issues of Bâdiye could be obtained. We were able to collect 36 of the issues published in 1919 from Hakkı Tarık Us and Atatürk Libraries. Issues no.46 and no. 59 can unfortunately not be avaible in either libraries. We tried to translate the issues that are available into the Latin alphabet and evaluate them as much as possible. However, there were parts that we could not read, as they were colourless or torn. We added those parts to the text in the original form.Bâdiye was a newspaper involving mainly political articles. It also included news, stories and advertisements.During the smothering and boring days of the prisonment, the prisoners made different activities such as acting in a theatre play and playing football in order to be distracted by the psychological problems. We observe that the prisoned Turkish soldiers, who tried to stand by each other and to preserve their bonds with their own lands vivid, gave courses on law or such in the pages of Bâdiye newspaper since they devoted themselves to education and science.Bâdiye Newspaper, which was issued at the time of truce, was one of the most important newspaper, which reflected the perspectives of Turkish officers from Egypt to Turkey. Having a title of ?What have we done for Turkishness today??, Bâdiye Newspaper adopted a Turkish-nationalist line as a publication policy and issued articles in line with it.Our aim is to evaluate the literal and cultural mobility of the prisoned Turks in Egypt and contribute to the researches in terms of historyi literature and culture.
