Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of context based teaching method on teaching chemical bonds to 1st grade high school students. The study has been conducted with randomly chosen 95 studens attending Bolu Abant High School in 2009?2010 education year by forming 2 experimental groups and 1 control group. A Chemistry Pre-knowledge Test prepared by the researcher and consisting of 8th grade science and technology course chemistry subjects and 21 multiple choice questions and 10 true false sentences (totally 31 questions) has been applied in order to determine the levels of students. Then clinical interview that consists of 11 questions prepared by the researcher has been carried out with each of the classes and the answers given by the students have been recorded. Before conducting the experimental study, a Chemistry Concept Achievement Test consisting of 21 multiple choice questions and 10 true false sentences (totally 31 questions) has been put into practice in order to determine what students know about Chemical Bond. In addition to these, a Chemistry Course Attitude Scale developed by other researchers has been put into practice. Chemical Bonds topic has been taught in 2 experimental groups for three weeks in 6 course hours by using 5 different stories and 11 activities. However, the same subject has been taught in the same course hours by using traditional teaching method.By videotaping the practices in experimental groups, the researcher has aimed to determine the missing points related to the application of the method so as to minimize them in the next presentation. After the application, the clinical interview has again been conducted with the students in each group and their answers have been recorded. In the same way, the Chemistry Concept Achievement Test and the Chemistry Course Attitude Scale have again been applied. The Chemistry Concept Achievement Test has again been given to students as a Retention Test to measure the retention. The data gathered have been assessed with various analyses using SSPS packet program.Key Words: Context-Based Approach, Context-Based Learning, Chemical Bonds,
