Abstract (EN)

The role of employees in the business world, which has developed in different areas, has started to change in the quarter-century. Whirl from the time when cognitive intelligence is intensively in traditional meaning prioritize to a time in which emotional intelligence is given importance has led to different perspectives in employee performance appraisals. The differences in the level of emotional intelligence of the employees, which have started to become more specific in terms of the service sector, have led to an increase in the studies conducted in this field. Emotional intelligence approaches, which have been increasing since the mid-90s, while it has been subject to implementation in many areas, has been lacking in the banking sector, which is an important service sector. Accordingly, the main aim of this study is to examine the effect of emotional intelligence on the job performance of the employees in the banking sector. In survey form created as a result of literature review, participants answered the expressions about emotional intelligence and job performance factors, as well as demographic information. As the data of 342 participants working in banks operating in Gaziantep were compiled, hypothesis tests were done with SPSS 21.0 package. As a result of the research, it was found that the emotional intelligence levels of the banking sector employees were midlevel and their job performances were high. In addition, it is another result that emotional intelligence levels of banking sector employees do not have an effect on job performance.
