Abstract (EN)

The concept of ideology is mostly a determinant factor in news production and transmission process of mass media. Same events can be described differently by each broadcasting corporation. The aim of this study is doing a cricital discourse analysis of the news took place in Turkish media following the suicide attack occured on October 10 2015 in Ankara train station targeting the participants of the Labor, Peace and Democracy Meeting before the meeting started. The attack is recognized as the largest scaled terror attack of modern Turkish history. The news stories in the newspapers Sabah, Star, Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet, Zaman, Özgür Gündem on October 11-12-13-14-15 2015 has been studied using Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. In the first of the four chapters it is denoted the journalists and newspaper owners create the ideology that reflects on texts of the news stories through linguistics and the inseperable relation between media and the ideology is tried to be explained. In the second chapter the importance and neccesity of peace journalism, its similarities and differences with conventional journalism, and means that need to be taken to adapt peace journalism have been tried to be explained. In the third chapter of the study, it is noted that the concept "hate speech" seperates sectors of the society as "us" and "them", alienating those sectors. It is also tried to be revealed how hate speech finds place in media and what media is supposed to do about it. In the fourth and last chapter, the discourse analysis of the way the suicide attack on October, 2015 in Ankara train station was made into news is done through samples from different newspapers. At the end of the study it is clear that differences in ideologies or the ownership structures of the newspapers was effective on construciton of texts of the news stories. Newspapers with different ideologies each designed a different reality about the incident in Ankara train station, approached the matter aligned with thei own ideologies.
