The Taliban in the political life of Afghanistan as a failed state

The purpose of this dissertation is to fill the gap in literature for research conducted in Turkish, and to contribute to the research on the stability and rebuilding of Afghanistan by examining the effects of the Taliban in terms of its contributing factors to Afghanistan's becoming a "failed state", by making predictions about the future of Afghanistan and the Taliban, and by providing proposals for solutions. This study was conducted using a qualitative research method, a case study in the context of Afghanistan and the Taliban, based on a literature review and an existing database review and analyzed by process follow-up method. Contrary to Eurocentric studies, Afghan culture has played an important role in this study in the analysis of the efforts that have been made to understand the situation, examine the problems, and offer solutions. The Taliban emerged in 1994 in the aftermath of Afghanistan's "collapsed state" status, which was the result of the war against the Soviet occupation that lasted for ten years, a civil war during the Najibullah administration, and the internal conflicts between the mujahids. The Taliban ruled the country for five years by establishing its own government in 1996. The Taliban, which was overthrown with international intervention in 2001, recovered in a short time as a result of the wrong strategies implemented and gradually increased its military and political weight in Afghanistan. The Taliban is active throughout country today and it is still the main factor reinforcing the state failure in Afghanistan. At the current stage, the joint rule of Afghanistan alongside the legitimate government is regarded as the most feasible option by the international coalition. It is foreseen that as the Afghan state institutions cannot sustain on their own without the support of the international community, if such support is not provided, the Afghan state may collapse in a short time.
