ABSTRACTPhD DissertationMORPHOMETRIC AND ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OFEpilobium hirsutum L. (ONAGRACEAE) DISTRIBUTED INTHE WEST ANATOLIAGülnur GENÇLER ABEŞAnadolu UniversityGraduate School of SciencesBiology ProgramSupervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cengiz TÜREII nd. Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Nüket AKANIL BİNGÖL2007, 104 pagesIn this study, Epilobium hirsutum L. species which is distributed naturally in ourcountry was investigated by the aspects of its morphometrical characters, ecological andsome biological properties at different phytogeographical regions of west Anatolia byusing some statistical programs. As a result of carrying by seconder methods, it is knownas an invasive plant in abroad . In this research, climatic parameters of study areas wereinvestigated, other members of the flora which Epilobium is found were identified, germination characteristics, phenological properties were examined. According to thedata, temperature and rain characteristics of the areas showed that two factors are equallyimportant at the growth of the E.hirsutum, the essential parameter is humidity. It is atypical member of the lightened environments and an indicator species of the marshes.According to the germination experiments, the best condition is approximately 300C andlightened environment at cold stratified seeds, the worst one is higher degrees oftemprature and dark condition at unstratified seeds. In the statistical analysis, it was foundthat there is a negative relationship between sepal and vegetative canopy values.Characters of flower, capsule and seed numbers increases with vegetative canopy to aexact point, decreases canopy after that peak.Key Words: Epilobium hirsutum, invasiveness, ecology, canopy, germination, morphometryii
