Abstract (EN)

Due to the advancement of technology and its application in almost every field of our lives, it is known that the radiation that has entered our lives is beneficial not only in the medical field for imaging and disease diagnosis but also in many different areas, including the industrial sector. In order to minimize the damage caused by radiation, the development of new shielding materials has accelerated as part of the shielding method, which is one of the most effective ways to protect against radiation. For this reason, this thesis study investigates the effect of Al 6000 series, AISI 4140 alloy steel, AISI 8620 alloy steel, and 1040 manufacturing steel samples, which are frequently used in the industry and easily obtainable, on radiation shielding. The studies were conducted experimentally using an NaI (Tl) detector gamma spectrometer, and Cs-137 (662keV) and Co-60 (1173keV, 1332keV) radioactive sources were used in the shielding experiments. The radiation shielding parameters obtained experimentally were compared with the values theoretically calculated using the XCOM nuclear software program. It has been observed that the theoretical and experimental results are in agreement, and the best shielding belongs to the alloy steel samples.
