Effect of different altitute levels in vitamins A, E and C, glutathione and malondialdehyde in fig (Ficus carica L.)

Abstract (EN)

The levels of vitamins A, E, C, glutathione and MDA in fresh fig (Ficus carica L.) species collected at 60 and 800 m altitudes from Aydın region were examined experimentaly. The vitamins levels and amond of glutathione and MDA were determined by HPLC.Our results showed that vitamin A levels of Akça (p<0,001), Sarı Zeybek (p<0,05), and Kara Yaprak (p<0,001), collected at 800 m were higher in same species that collected at 60 m altitude. Similarly, vitamin E levels of Kuşadası Bardakçı (p<0,001), Siyah Orak (p<0,001), Akça (p<0,05), Mor Güz (p<0,05), Sultan Selim (p<0,01), Kara Yaprak (p<0,01) collected at 800 m were higher in same species that collected low altitude. Our results stated that Kuşadası Bardakçı (p<0,05), Mor Güz (p<0,01), Sultan Selim (p<0,05), Siyah İncir 208 (p<0,05), Kara Yaprak (p<0,05) collected at high altitude had more vitamin C levels than same species that collected in 60 m. In the analyses, glutathione levels increased in Akça (p<0,001) ve Mor Güz (p<0,001) that collected at 800 m of altitude. GSSG levels of Siyah Orak (p<0,001), Akça (p<0,001), Gök Lop (p<0,01), Sarı Lop (p<0,01), Mor güz (p<0,05), Sarı Zeybek (p<0,05), Sultan Selim (p<0,001), Kara Yaprak (p<0,01) collected at 60 m altitude were higher than same species that collected at 800 m of altitude. There was no significant difference between the groups collected 60 m and that collected at 800 m in MDA levels. It was concluded that the fig plants increased their resistivity by increasing their antioxidant vitamin levels in opposition to the free radicals increasing with stres.
