Investigation of the relationship between physical education and sports teachers' goal orientation and teaching approaches towards teaching

This study is conducted with the teachers who work in educational institutions in national education directorate of Elazig to investigate the relationship between physical education and sports teachers' goal orientation and teaching approaches towards teaching. This study is conducted by using descriptive research (scanning) method. The target population of the study is the teachers who work as physical education and sports teacher in educational instituons in national education diroctorate of Elazığ. The sample group consists of 279 physical education and sports teachers working in educational institutions in Elazığ provincial and district national education directorates. Acquired data has been analysed via SPSS 22.0 packet program. Percentage, frequency, standard deviation, average, one way ANOVA, independent t-test and correlation analysis have been used on analysis of the data. Significance level has been supposed as p<0.05. As a result of the study, it was determined that male teachers had higher level of orientations and approaches than female teachers according to their target orientations and teaching approaches. As a result of correlation analysis which has been done with the aim of determining the relation between target tendency scale and sub-dimensions, it has been stated that there is a moderate and positive relationship between the scale and its sub-dimensions. It has been seen that there is a high level and positive relation between teaching approaches inventory and its sub-dimensions. Moreover there is a moderate and positive correlation between the goal orientations for teaching scale and teaching approaches inventory.
