Examination of the leadership originations and self-respects of physical education and sports school students (Gümüşhane example)

This study; It was conducted to examine the leadership orientations and self-esteem levels of undergraduate students studying in the field of sports sciences. Relational scanning model was used. The universe of the research; Gümüşhane University 2023-2024 spring semester consists of a total of 852 students, 302 of whom are female and 498 of whom are male, who continue formal education. The sample of the research is; It consists of a total of 442 students, 163 of whom are female and 279 of whom are male, randomly selected from the universe group. The survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used as the data collection tool in the research. SPSS 2024 program was used to analyze the data. In the analysis of the data; Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, person product moment correlation analysis (spearman test) were used. A significance level of p<0.05 was accepted in the interpretation of the results. In order to achieve the objectives determined in the research, the personal information form developed by the researcher, the Leadership Tendencies Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale were used. Considering the research results, positive and statistically significant relationships were determined between students' leadership orientations and self-esteem. There was a relationship between leadership orientations, the number of days of sports, and the demographic characteristics of being able to speak without a ready-made text (p<0.05); It is seen that there is no relationship between the demographic characteristics of age, place of residence and class variable (p>0.05). There was a relationship between self-esteem and variables such as gender, number of days doing sports, people who see themselves as vocal and talkative, and being able to speak without a ready-made text (p<0.05). It was determined that there was no relationship between the demographic characteristics of age, place of residence, and voluntary participation in sports (p>0.05).
