Self construals suicide and attitudes toward suicide

In this study, the relation among self-construal, attitudes towards suicidal behavior and suicidal behaviours is analyzed. Besides, the individuals having autonomous, relational and autonomous-related self construals have been examined in terms of their effect on the attitudes towards suicidal behaviours, their manners about suicide and the ones committing suicide. Research sample consists of 702 students from 9th, 10th and 11th classes of high schools in the centre of Aydın. Having been selected according to different levels of success, 309 boys and 393 girls set off this sample. As a result of the analysis, the individuals having suicidal ideation, suicidal attempt and suicidal behaviours have got higher scores in autonomous-self construal area. Whereas, the ones not having suicidal ideation, suicidal attempt or behaviours have got higher scores in related-self construal area. On the other hand, higher scores in autonomous-related self area are got by the ones who have suicidal ideation and suicidal behaviour. Also according to these students, suicidal attempt has been found not to be very different from suicidal behaviour.
