Abstract (EN)

DETERMINATION OF COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE BY SOME NON-DESTRUCTIVE TEST METHODS (M. Sc. Thesis) MÜrsel ERDAL GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCTENCE AND TECHNOLOGY August 2002 ABSTRACT Schmidt hammer is widely used to determine compressive strength of concrete at the damaged and/or undamaged structures in our country. The method is widely used because it is easy to use and cheap. Schmidt hammer evaluates compressive strength of aged concrete with large deviation. Due to above mentioned reason, this tool may not be suitable for that purpose. The aim of this study is to find out the compressive strength of concrete with Windsor Probe Penetration Test (WPPT) which is a well-known non-destructive test method in America and European countries. Second purpose is to compare obtained results with some other non-destructive test methods and traditional test results. C 20 test specimens prepared in three different conditions are subjected to WPPT, traditional and other non-destructive test methods. Obtained experimental results are compared with each other. As a result, WPPT determined the compressive strength values with 2.5 % accuracy according to destructive core sample testing. This accuracy is about 5.4 % at the Schmidt hammer test and % 3.5 at the combined method.
