SIZE EFFECT TEST IN BOND SPLICES OF REINFORCEDCONCRETE BARS(M.Sc. Thesis)Burak KURTGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SC ENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJANUARY 2006ABSTRACTAlthough ductile failure is preferred in concrete buildings, due to theirheterogenic structures brittle failure is observed. While in ductile failure, theloading remains the same when the element reaches the load bearing capacity,in brittle failure the load is decreased. The reason of this recession is that, bothcauses affecting the design and safety is most probably the size effect. Because, geometrically similar but dimensionally different structures show that thefailure tension rises with higher dimensions. In this study, the laboratory studiesof adherence extends of the reinforcements of the reinforced concretestructures, the existence of size effects and the size effect formulas given byBazant are inquired.Science Code :911Key Words :Size effect, fracture mechanics, concrete structures, fracture, reinforced concrete experimentsPage Number :111Adviser :Prof.Dr.Sıddık ŞENER
