An information ethics course: A case study with teacher candidates

Abstract (EN)
This study aims to design a 12-week application related to IT ethics course for IT teacher candidates and to evaluate the implementation this course. The case study approach was used for this purpose. The participants of the study consisted of 48 undergraduate students who attend the Information Ethics Course from Faculty of Education, Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology in Anadolu University in the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. Data were collected through multiple data collection tools as semi-structural interview, survey, researcher and participant diary, observation and product files. The data obtained in this study were analyzed using qualitative data analysis approaches. The findings of the study can be categorized under three subtopics. These are; findings related to the instructional qualifications, findings about the regulation of content, findings of regulation of the teaching and learning process. The instructional qualities consist of seven themes which include discussion management skills, open-mindedness, mastering subject, classroom management, consistency, material use, and technology literacy. Related to content regulation, findings regarding the content offered in the implementation are found sufficient. Findings related to the teaching-learning process consist of four themes including the regulation of the physical environment, use of teaching methods, use of tools and evaluation process and sub-themes related to them. The findings and results of the study are presented in the context of the themes and sub-themes mentioned above. In the light of these findings, it is recommended that instructional implementations be developed. Regarding this respect, it is suggested that an action research design aimed at teaching information ethics to be conducted. Dissemination of information ethics education in university curriculum is regarded as an important point
