Abstract (EN)

In today's world, where energy is at the forefront, the demands for innovative technologies that improve the fuel economy of vehicles are increasing day by day, with the importance of fuel saving in vehicles increasing day by day. By enabling the vehicle engine to operate at optimum temperatures, improvements in fuel consumption and pollutant exhaust emissions can be achieved. Automotive engineers have tried to find a solution in this regard by designing active grilles that can be opened and closed. With system-controlled active grilles, it can instantly change the cooling air coming to the engine, control the engine temperature and improve fuel consumption. In the study, road tests were carried out by taking the prototype of the system and applying the control algorithm according to certain conditions. In the study, effect of the grille, which is designed for the vehicle that doesn't have an active grill system, on the time it takes for the engine to warm up and on the fuel consumption of the engine at this time has been investigated. The effect of 4 different angle values (0 ̊, 30 ̊, 60 ̊, 90 ̊) was observed without applying AGS. Tests at stationary and 50 km/h speeds were analysed. The test results are consistent with the idea that reducing the openings in the front grilles in the vehicle's bumper reduces the amount of air entering the engine area, thus improving vehicle thermal management and aerodynamics, thus saving fuel.
