Determination of the knowledge level and consumption habits of the health personnel working in a state hospital about probiotics

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the level of knowledge about probiotics and probiotic consumption status of health personnel working in a state hospital affiliated to the Ministry of Health. In the study, a face-to-face questionnaire was applied to 302 healthcare personnel in order to determine the probiotic information of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in Burdur State Hospital located in the center of Burdur, and to determine the frequency of probiotic consumption. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire consisting of three parts was applied to the participants. In the first two sections, the demographic characteristics and nutritional habits of the participants were investigated, while in the third section, their habits and knowledge about probiotic products were investigated. The data obtained as a result of the study were investigated on the basis of branch and age, with the help of Pearson chi-square test whether they were statistically significant or not. Results: A total of 302 people participated in the survey used in our study. 58 people (19.20%) in the 20-30 age range, 128 people (42.40%) in the 31-40 age range, and 116 people (38.40%) in the 41-50 age range participated in the survey. When the participants were examined by branch, 41 physicians (13.60%), 161 nurses (53.30%) and 100 other healthcare personnel (33.10%) participated. Some of the answers given by the participants to the questions in the third section, based on age and branch, were found to be statistically significant in the tests performed. Conclusion: The results obtained as a result of the study were evaluated in terms of statistical significance with different tests. However, it is thought that the study will benefit the literature.
