Abstract (EN)

The research was carried out to determine the relationship between diet quality and quality of life of 156 overweight and obese women aged 20-65 years who applied to a private nutrition and diet outpatient clinic located in the city center of Ankara. The general characteristicsof the individuals, their anthropometric measurement data, and physical activity records were obtained through the created questionnaire. In addition, a 24-hour retrospective record of food consumption was madeand diet quality was calculated with the Healthy Eating Index (HEI-2015).HEI scores of the individuals were divided into three classes as good (over 80 points), moderate (51-80 points), and bad (50 points or less). The Quality of Life Scale (SF-36) form was used to determine the quality of life. According to the Quality of Life Scale, individuals' physical function score is 73.97±21.46, physical role difficulty score is 73.40±38.07, body pain score is 78.93±22.8, general health perception score is 85.81±17.24, energy/vitality score is 49.55±18.08,social function score is 72.99±24.12,emotional role difficulty score is 57.69±44.05, and mental health score is 65.85±13.96. The mean HEI score was found 61.98±12.51 in overweight individuals, and 61.55±12.24 in obese individuals. The obese individuals' intake of HEI-2015 components consists of 92.39±124.67 g of total fruit,92.39±126.77 g of whole fruit, 225.71±177.65 g of total vegetables, 29.89±48.59 g of dark green leaf/legumes, 30.41±40.54 g of whole grain, 167.74±144.66 g of milk and dairy products,152.66±99.85 g of total protein, 36.00±69.97 g of seafood/vegetable protein, 133.83±111.14 g of processed food, 1.78±0.85 g of sodium, 24.49±29 g of added sugar, and 29.96±19.17 g of saturated fat. In this study, although diet quality and quality of life are in great interaction with each other, no significant relationship was found between diet quality and quality of life. For all these reasons, it is thought that it would be beneficial to conduct similar studies with more participants from different age groups in order to better examine the subject.
