Abstract (EN)
Writing is one of the materials most commonly used by humans as a means of communication since the time it was discovered. The writing, which lost its symbolic attitude in its form over time, was simplified over time and gained the form we use today. Graphic designers, who create communication messages by using text, which is one of the basic elements of visual communication, in an aesthetic and functional way, visualize writing in many different ways, traditional and contemporary, by making use of the discipline of typography, and turn writing into an art. At the core of this study, research and suggestions are presented on what words as images are, in which areas they can be used and how they can be designed. In the first part of the study, information about communication, visual communication, graphic design and graphic languages is given. In the second part, the concept of image is researched, the use of image in the context of graphic design and its relations with writing are given. In the third chapter, the historical process of the writing is examined and the typographic image is defined. The works created by artists and designers with postmodern typographic approaches are presented with examples and imagery is examined in detail. In the last part of the study, ten different word as image designs, the whole process from the sketching process to the visualization on a graphic product surface were explained in detail, and a reference guide was prepared for the word as image design.
