Abstract (EN)

Political identities usually stem from political organisation or constitution. However, if it cannot form a societal basis, there will be no chance of survival for the political parties. Based on this, the dissertation aims to analyse the political identity nationalism?s construction through media as a discourse. Intended for this objective, the two parties? nationalist discourse has been analysed comparatively and it has been tried to be analysed the content and form in which these discourses have taken place in the media. In the first section of the dissertation, social structure, social interaction and social realities are focused on by emphasising the social realities which are notional frameworks. In the second section of the dissertation, under the notional framework explained in the first section, social foundations, political organisations and political parties have been focused on. Then, it has been tried to explain that political parties have constructed political identities thought to be accepted as a type of social identity by using discourses. By focusing on especially nationalism as a political identity, it has been tried to explain that nationalist discourses used by political parties and these discourses are presented to individuals through media. In the third section of the dissertation, the nationalist discourses used by DSP and MHP in general elections of 1999 and 2002 have been tried to be analysed by means of discourse analysis and be interpreted in the light of the things explained in the first and the second section
