Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out for the purpose of examining the usage of mirrors in Anatolia within the scope of material culture. The study aims to try to determine the ways of using the mirror, the meanings attributed to the mirror, the value of the mirror in 21st-century, and the transformation it has experienced. In this context, after the literature review, the sequential mixed method was applied as a research method. In the first stage, the questionnaire application, which is a quantitative survey method, was carried out. In the second stage, face-to-face interviews, which is a qualitative method, were conducted. 179 people living in Turkey participated in the survey, which was applied using online environments. In line with the findings obtained from the online survey application, the questions to be examined in depth were determined. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 10 people to conduct an in-depth analysis. Sample selection for the interview was made according to the survey findings. When the findings obtained by the analysis of the interview and survey data, it was seen that the use of mirrors changed from past to present. The level of commitment of the participants in the superstitious statements about the mirror was quite low. Another result obtained is that the mobile phone camera has a very high participation rate among the objects preferred instead of the mirror. It is seen that technological developments and decisions taken in design change the use of objects.
