Abstract (EN)
Purpose: Patients who applied to the psychiatry outpatient clinic with complaints of sleep; which they have sleep complaints, what they attributed to causes, what are the methods of coping with sleep complaints and their perceptions about sleep disorder. Method: The sample group included 200 patients who applied to the MCBU psychiatry polyclinic with sleep complaints. Semi-Structured Interview for DSM-5 and Sociodemographic and Clinical Information Form were filled by the physician. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Sleep Hygiene Index, Insomnia Severity Index, Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Scale were given to patients fill out of hospital setting. Data analysis was carried out by transferring to computer environment. Results: The rate of thinking that there was a reason causing sleep complaints was 67,7% (p<0,05). It were stated problems in family and social relations (22,8%), medical illness (17,1%), marital problems (15,4%), financial problems (13%), work-related problems (9,3%). The rate of those who heard concept of "Sleep Hygiene" before is 16,4%. The rate of those who have tried method for sleep problem is 64,6%. Watching TV, reading book, listening to music etc. is the most preferred method. The rate of those who have committed acts is 35,4% (p<0,05). Conclusion: When the findings of our study were evaluated, the sleep hygiene of the patients who applied to psychiatry outpatient clinic with sleep complaints was insufficient. It was determined that patients with low sleep quality had more dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep. Keywords: Sleep, Sleep hygiene, Dysfunctional beliefs about sleep
