The investigation of the aggressiveness level of high school student athletes in individual,team and racket sports

This study aims to determine the aggressiveness level of student athletes who are currently studying in high schools in Trabzon city Ortahisar province and participate in their schools' individual, team and racket sports activities. The population of the study are the student athletes who study in 17 different high schools in Trabzon city Ortahisar province and participate in their schools' individual, team and racket sports activities. The participants of the study are randomly selected two hundred and eighty-four (284) female, four hundred and fourteen (414) male, and six hundred and ninety-eight in total (698) student athletes studying in the aforementioned high schools and participate in their schools' individual, team and racket sports activities. There are four hundred and fourty-four (444) student athletes who participate in team sports, and two hundred and eighty-eight of them are male while one hundred fifty-six are female. There are one hundred twenty-four student athletes in individual sports of whom seventy-six (76) are male and fourty-eight (48) are female. There are one hundred and thirty (130) student athletes doing racket sports with a gender distribution of fifty (50) male and eighty (80) female. The "Agressiveness Scale" developed by İpek İlter Kiper and the demographic information questionnaire developed by the researcher have been used to collect the data of the study. Microsoft Excel 2007 for Windows is used to computerize the obtained data as well as designing the graphics. To analyze the statistical data SPSS 22.0 is used and Microsoft Office Word 2007 for windows is used. Firstly, for statistical analysis Saphiro-Wilk normality test is conducted. To check whether there are significant differences between the normally distributed two groups t-test for independent samples was conducted at α= 0.05 level. For the groups that are not normally distributed Mann Whitney U testi and Kruskal-Wallis tests are conducted. The results of the study reveal that there is statistically significant differences between the high school students' destructive and passive assertive sub-dimensions (p<0.05), assertiveness sub-dimension with respect to the type of highs school they attend (p<0.05), destructive and passive assertiveness sub-dimension with respect the year of sports experience (p<0.05), destructive assertiveness sub-dimension with respect to mother's education level (p<0.05). However, there is no statistically significant difference between the high school students' all sub-dimensions of age, sports type, father's education level and monthly family income level (p>0.05). There is also no statistically significant difference between the high school students' destructive and passive assertiveness sub-dimension with respect to the the type of highs school they attend (p<0.05), assertiveness sub-dimension with respect to the year of sports experience (p<0.05), passive aggresiveness and assertiveness sub-dimension (p<0.05).
