Abstract (EN)

In this study, a novel monomer (2,2'-di-pyrrol-1-yl-[4,4']bithiazolyl, PyDBTH), was synthesized via Clauson-Kaas method. Characterization of the monomer was performed 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FTIR, CV and MS techniques. Polymerization of the bithiazole containing monomer, was performed in tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate/dichloromethane system and electrochemical behavior of the polymer was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. In addition, electrochemical copolimerization of PyDBTH in presence 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) was achieved and characterization of these polymers were performed via cyclic voltammetry and FTIR techniques. Electrochromic properties of all the polymers were investigated through spectroelectrochemisry, kinetic studies and color measurement studies. Depending on the synthesis conditions, the bithiazole based polymers exhibited optical band gaps ranging from 2.60 to 1.75 eV and the copolymers displayed multichromism within a wide span of the visible spectrum. The copolymers revealed short switching times and useful optical contrast as 0.6 s and 54 %, respectively. Finally, electrochromic devices were established using the P(PyDBTH-EDOT) and PEDOT polymers. Electrochromic properties of the electrochromic devices were investigated via spectroelectrochemisry kinetic studies and color measurements.
