Abstract (EN)
Within the scope of this thesis work, information about the well-known Mertens, Pasche, Nuding approaches for calculating shear coefficients has been given and a new approach to calculation of bearing capacity for compound channels with vegetative floodplain has been proposed. In this study, the relationship and the interaction between the shape of floodplain and the slope of main channel embankment are also investigated in addition to shape of main channel. A physical model is set up and the experiments are done for the four different shapes of main channel. By examining the experimental results and the calculations for Mertens, Pasche approaches along with the proposed approach, the most appropriate method have been tried to be determined.
