Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACTThe Contribution Level of Body Composition and Socio-Economical Parameters ofBoxers to Sportive AchievementThis study was conducted to determine the contribution level of body composition andsocio-economical parameters of boxers to sportive achievement by using the models of?relational survey method?.The target population of the study was undergraduate sportsmen who were activelyboxing. The sample of the research was consisted of 129 sportsmen from 28 differentcountries participating in the ?1st Box Championship between the Universities? which washeld in Kemer, Antalya, between 22 and 29 November 2004.A questionnaire survey was carried out to determine the socio-economical levels of theboxers. The questionnaire was consisted of 21 close-ended questions in addition to ?PersonalInformation Form?. The assessment was made according to percentage distribution of repliesprovided for all items of each question.Body compositions of boxers were evaluated by bioelectrical impedance analysis fromfoot to foot by taking the measurements on the morning scale when the boxers were hungry. The data were analyzed by using ?correlation technique? in `SPSS 11 for Windows?software. In order to determine the significance levels between socio-economical and bodycomposition parameters of the boxers and sportive achievement, the sportsmen wereclassified as groups which were successful or not at individual and country basis and thenpercentages, frequencies and correlations were assessed.Pearson Chi-Square and Pearson Correlation tests were applied to investigate therelationships between the parameters. An ?Independent Groups t test? was used to comparearithmetical means of body composition parameters and the parameters which wereinvestigated at the level of significance were symbolized separately for the analysis of therelationships. Significance levels between the data of the parameters were presented inTables. The results of this study showed that a partially significant difference was presentbetween socio-economical parameters such as club membership, income level, personalcomputer, spare-time activities, university resources and sportive achievement at individuallevel in successful and unsuccessful sportsmen. When the results were compared at the basisof country averages, a partially significant difference was observed between successful andunsuccessful countries in terms of some parametres such as owning a house, number ofrooms, personal computer, transportation to the school, television program they watch, andtype of music they listen. In addition, a significant difference was found in ?IMPEDANCE?value of country averages between body compositions and sportive achievement (t=2.072;P<0.05).Key words: Boxing, Body Composition, Success, Socio-economic
