Abstract (EN)

Numerous studies have been done to date to identify the factors affecting people's decision-making processes. Different ideas have been brought forward about what these factors are, and Social Darwinism and Freud's Psychoanalytic theory have become two prominent concepts among them. Social Darwinism contends that the society in which people live is the most important factor in their decision-making processes, because the rules set by the society play a key role in an individual's survival in an adaptation to that particular society. While Social Darwinism examined this process under the dome of social science, Psychoanalytic theory sought answers for this decision-making process under the science of psychiatry and claimed that the most important factor in people's decision-making was the subconscious. This study aims to establish a direct correlation between Social Darwinism and Freud's Psychoanalytic theory through the analysis of the characters and their decision-making processes in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
