Pontos and Paphlagonia coins confiscated from Alper Erdem in Burdur Museum

The depictions of the coins that people used to pay in ancient times provide us with information about the period they were minted. Thanks to these depictions, a lot of information about religion, commercial life, city life and people's beliefs of the period can be reached. While preparing the thesis on "Pontos and Paphlagonia Coins Confiscated from Alper Erdem in the Burdur Museum", the first step of the method carried out was the resource search. Theses, books and articles that can be used as a source for the study were obtained by scanning. In the second, and the third stage of the study, the coin inventory books in the Burdur Museum were scanned, the coins registered under the names of Pontos and Paphlagonia were examined and preliminary preparation was made for the study. The fourth stage of the study is the catalog part. At this stage, the minting date, place, size, etc. of the coins arranged in chronological order informations has been given and definitions have been made. There are 175 coins in total in the catalog of the thesis work. Coins were obtained from Pontos and Paphlagonia regions. Coins in the catalog; There are 138 from Amisos, one of the cities of Pontos region, 2 from Khabakta, 6 from Komana, 20 from Sinope, one of the cities of Paphlagonia region, 1 from Pimalisa, 8 from Amastris. While examining the coins in the catalog section, they were handled chronologically, firstly photographed one by one, weights and measurements were taken and the period was determined. These coins examined cover the Hellenistic Period as a period. The earliest dated coins are from 120 BC, and the latest coins are from 56 BC. 1 coin from 120-100 BC, 41 coins from 120-63 BC, 83 coins from 105-90 BC, 1 coin from 100-85 BC coins and 40 coins from 85-65 BC, 5 coins from 80-70 BC, 4 coins from 56 BC are included in the catalog. Looking at the front and back sides of the coins in the catalog, it is seen that there are different types. Gorgo or Medusa headed Aigis and Nike figured coins are the most crowded group in the catalog. Apart from these, coins with the figures of Athena, Pegasos, Perseus, Medusa, Dionysos and Ares are also included. In addition, the Latin inscriptions on the obverse and reverse sides of the coins are also indicated in the front and back legend list section.
