The issue of women's status and rights in İslam in the contemporary period

The status of women in Islam has been a subject on which many manipulative discourses have been expressed in the contemporary period. Criticizing the religion of Islam through the subject of women has made it necessary to conduct this study. In religions and societies prior to Islam, women were often left behind men in social, economic, political, etc. areas due to sociocultural reasons. This study examines the position of women before and after Islam, the theological issues related to women in the classical period of Islam, and the views of Islamic thinkers on the status of women in Islam in the contemporary period through document analysis. As a result of this study, the ideas of contemporary thinkers have been utilized to prove that the relative and sensationalist approaches of the opponents of Islam that Islam humiliates women, does not hold them equal, and does not value women do not reflect the truth. It was concluded that the fact that some of the narrations against women who were subjected to criticism were contrary to the message of Islam and incompatible with the Prophet's method of notification indicated that they were fabricated or misperceived. It is concluded that some of the verses of the Holy Qur'an that are subjected to criticism may have been interpreted under the influence of the historical context and the environment in which the society lived, and the wisdom in the verses is tried to be revealed. With Islam, it has been seen that women were given freedom and rights in accordance with their nature. It has been seen that the negative behaviors against women in Islamic societies stem from the patriarchal social structure, some narrations of Israelite origin and old beliefs, customs and traditions.
