Traditional professions in Çankiri and their current situation

Traditional Turkish crafts emerged to meet the needs of human beings. Turkish crafts, thought to have been practiced in Central Asia, were carried to the Anatolian geography with conquests and migrations, and gained new forms by blending with the forms and techniques of the civilizations living in Anatolia. Crafts, which were thought to be more primitive at first, developed aesthetically over time with the development of techniques and possibilities; they both reflected the style and lifestyle of the period thanks to their motifs and embroidery, and became a tool for people to express their feelings and thoughts. Crafts, which are the protectors of national values within the scope of professional folklore, are among the values that need to be recorded, and the aim of the thesis is to record Çankırı professions before they disappear. The information that forms the basis of the research was collected using the compilation technique. The professions that were determined were evaluated, divided into titles and examined. In the study, the Yaran Organization, which determined the professional rules and ethics formed by the craftsmen, was mentioned, and then the master-apprentice relationship that ensured the transfer of the profession was mentioned. The study also includes the belief and stories of pir, which are the sacred of crafts and fall within the research area of occupational folklore. Although traditional professions try to survive against developing technology and industrialization, machine power has surpassed manual labor and individually produced personalized products have succumbed to mass-produced products in factories. The extinction of professions can only be possible by adapting to the culture industry and integrating them into the supply and demand wheel. Continuity can be ensured by transforming the products produced by professions into the culture industry. The sustainability of products transformed into the culture industry is also important.
