Abstract (EN)
Due to the side effects caused by the use of synthetic drugs and due to the high cost, there has been an increasing interest in the development of herbal-based drugs because they have fewer side effects and are relatively cheaper. For this purpose, the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of Capparis sicula plant and their inhibition effects on COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes were investigated. In the study, antioxidant properties of Capparis sicula plant were determined by DPPH and CUPRAC methods, while antimicrobial properties were determined by disk diffusion method. The effect on COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes was determined colorimetrically using commercial kits. The results showed that Capparis sicula had a significant antioxidant effect, while it did not have any antimicrobial effect on standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans. In addition, 4% inhibition effect on COX-1 enzyme was determined, while 23% inhibition effect on COX-2 enzyme was detected for the first time. Consequently, Capparis sicula can be an important source of natural raw materials that can be used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries.
