Analysis of cubism in Turkish and Cemal Tollu's paintings

Abstract (EN)

This study examines Cubism in its historical context and looks at the selected paintings in accordance with the content and analysis through the reflections and analysis of Cubism in Turkish painting. In this respect, it touches upon the interaction of Cubism whose inception dated back to 1907 in the world and which disseminated its influence from 1920 to 1960 in Turkish painting art. It also touches upon Cubism's orientation to embrace cultural and social understanding in Turkey. Furthermore, it is seeks to discover relevance of perception of Cubism in Turkish painting both to the status of Turkish society in historical context and to the internal world of artists. Through the study, the thesis reaches to a number of concluding remarks. The other part of the thesis is dedicated to analysis of selected Cubist paintings drawn with unique interpretation of his compositions. Through conducting content and analytical analysis to Cubist paintings, the thesis dwells upon Cubist approaches as well as on both cultural and social perception. The study employs general scanning model in the data acquired through illustrative research. It reaches to its conclusions through analyzing Cubism approaches, the factors impacting upon Cubism and the influences of Cubism on artistic heritage of Cemal Tollu. The thesis is dedicated to four fundamental problems. The four fundamental problems have been assessed as Cubist Approaches, periods with Cubist orientation, geometric analysis in Turkish painting art, the interactive relationship of form, content and color in the works of the Cubist artist Cemal Tollu in Turkish painting art and analytic analysis regarding hisworks.In this context the research conducted; Cubist influential works and Cemal Tollu's paintings, which are evaluated in terms of form, content, composition and color from plastic values, have been conveyed to Cemal Tollu's life, point of view to life and color perception.
