Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of surgical nurses' level of commitment on knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to patient safety. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted with nurses (n = 272) working in surgical units of a university and a public hospital between May-June 2019. 'Nurse Promotion Form' and 'Patient Safety Information Form', 'Nursing Commitment Scale in Nursing' and 'Patient Safety Attitude Scale' were obtained. In the analysis of the data, number percentage distribution, normally distributed student t test, one-way analysis of variance, and non-normally etched Verde Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskall Wallis test, Spearman correlation analysis and simple leveling were used to evaluate the relationship between two-point mean scores. Findings: The average of Nursing Commitment Scale in Nursing was 73.91 ± 11.98, and the mean of Patient Safety Attitude Scale was 159.58 ± 26.38. There was a significant difference between the nurses' age, educational status, working year and willingness to make effort, and the total and sub-dimensions of the institution and the NCS were determined. There was a significant difference between nurses' professional year and teamwork, safety climate, stress diagnostic sub-dimensions and total mean scores of PSAS. In the study, a positive and moderate relationship was found between surgical nurses' perception of commitment to profession and patient safety attitude. Conclusion: Professional Commitment to the profession in nursing olarak was found to be an important factor in explaining the patient safety attitude, which was a dependent variable.
