Examination of an online educational material development and implementation processes: An example of English course

The purpose of the research is to examine the development process of materials for the 9th grade elementary English teaching curriculum and the use of the developed materials in the teaching - learning process by means of online material development tools by an English teacher. The study's data consists of video recordings of online teaching, material development and use of the materials in the classroom environment, researcher and teacher logs, achievement test developed in the study, student and teacher written interview forms, semi-structured interview form, focus group interview form, and observation notes of the researcher. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis method and quantitative data were analyzed using paired samples t-test. Students' opinions regarding the implementation of online teaching materials mostly been positive, they found process fun, they thought the process was catchy, improved their English skills, facilitated learning and they recommend the similar use in other courses. There was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores and this finding supported qualitative data. As a result of the research, the teacher developed her skills both in terms of technology sufficiency and academic field. Throughout the research process, there were technical problems and connection problems, and it was observed that the teacher improved herself in finding solutions to these problems. In addition, the findings revealed that the teacher could solve problems by using mobile internet and online environments actively. In the study, it was concluded that professional development activities were more successful when the individual's characteristics, possibilities, and requirements were taken into consideration. At the same time, it contributes to the motivation and productivity of the teacher. Key Words: Professional development, Foreign language teaching, Online environments
