Abstract (EN)

Gender roles have socially restricted men and women throughout history. These roles are artificially constructed by society and individuals are forced to conform to them. Although much progress has been made regarding these roles, traditional masculinity and femininity are still ingrained in society. Therefore, challenging traditional gender roles is important because it can lead to greater gender equality and freedom for individuals to express themselves authentically. By breaking free from rigid gender roles, people can pursue their interests and careers without being constrained by societal expectations based on their gender. This thesis demonstrates how the theme of challenging gender roles is portrayed and adapted from literature to film, shedding light on the evolution of character representation and narrative interpretation. Ultimately, the thesis underscores the importance of diverse representations
