Mixed income housing period analysis in city of Chicago

ABSTRACTThe discovery of ''Checaugou'' region by the Europe source exploration commission foundersJacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet, the historical destiny of this region had changed.Because of the advantaged geographic position, the Indians had conducted the explorers, inthe course of time this region had developed as a trade center.There had been lots of wars between the Indians and the new settlers of this region. Thistension ended in 1830?s with the war called Black Hawk War in which the Indians wereforced to leave. While trade has been becoming widespread and the population has beenrising, firstly Chicago was announced as a town at 1833 and just after four years, at 1837,with the ongoing rise in population, it was announced as a city.By time passes, in 1850?s in addition to the river as a trade way, the railroads were also used.Since the city was developing because of the agricultural and commercial oppurtunities, therehad been a huge rise in the migration. The winner of The Civil War ,realized between 1860-1865, was the North side, so that as a northern city, Chicago?s population and urbandevelopment had been affected from this situation.At 1871, after the fire known as the Great Chicago Fire, the city was harmed in a seriouslevel. But, Chicago city had succeeded in changing this negative situation into a positive wayby working hard and rebuilding city from zero in a very short period of time. City, in 1900?shad been developed in a high level in infrastructure, canal and bridge systems.The Great Migration period, beginning as a result of the I. World War in 1910?s, had beenhalted for a while in 1930?s when the Great Depression was arised. But after that, in 1940?sby the II. World War this period gained speed again. At the end of this period, between 1930-1970, in Chicago there have been lots of suburbs constituted.After 1970?s, Chicago city - growing level lost speed and also fell to negative levels- hasbeen facing with the problems of the suburbs that it gained through the migration period.Chicago as a city having a different position in urban development, constitution of housingpolicies and applications, still being discussed if it has found solutions to the social housingproblems that lay under the suburbs.Keywords: Chicago, social housing, housing policies
