The effect of creative drama activities constructed with children's literature products on scientific process skills of immigrant students

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of creative drama activities, which are fictionalized with children's literature, on the scientific process skills of immigrant students. Experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study, and quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used together. The study group of the research consisted of 28 students who immigrated from one of the state-owned PIKTES project schools in the Iskenderun district of Hatay province in the 2021-2022 academic year and continued in the 3rd grade. In order to collect the quantitative data of the research, the test developed by Croin, Padilla, and Twiest (1985) and adapted into Turkish as "Basic Skill Scale" by Aydoğdu and Karakuş (2015) was applied. The quantitative data obtained in the research were analyzed with the SPSS program. Diaries kept by the researcher throughout the process, workshop outputs and researcher observations were used to collect qualitative data. As a result of the research, it was determined that creative drama significantly improved the scientific process skills of immigrant students. When the post-test findings obtained from the study were compared, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group between the scores of the control and experimental groups from the Basic Skills Scale. The notes and observations of the researcher throughout the process also support the result.
