Abstract (EN)
The aims of this study are to determine the relation among sociodemographic factors, pregnancy and birth history, psychiatric and organic co-morbid diagnosis and applied medicenes treatment in the mentally retarded children who were treated in Cukurova University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department in 2006-20080-18 years old 200 cases were recruited to the study. Findings were collected from patient files as retrospectively. Psychometric scales were WISC-R and AGTE. Statistical analyzes were performed with SPSS windows (11.00) pocket program146 (%73) of cases were boys and 54 (%27) were girls. Average age was 7.5±3.6. The mothers education level was 5.9 years, mean pregnancy ages were 26.3 years. In the cases it was observed that as the mental retardness level increases the education period decreases but it was determined that this case was not statistically meaningfull. It was determined that the pregnancy age has no meaningful relationship with the retardness level. In 26 cases (%13) pregnancy complication was determined. In 86 cases (%43) on time birth was determined. The time period of start of walking and wc training were determined statistically earlier at a meaningful degree in the on time births with respect to the late births. (p<0.5) In the ones who have organic illness, eclampsia history and EEG failure, WISC-R verbal, performance and aggregate points were found meaningfully low.141 (%70.5) cases had least one co-morbid disorder. The most common diagnose was Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (n=85, % 60.2). Other common diagnoses were Pervasive Developmental Disorder (n=21, % 14,8), Psychotic Disorder (n=4, %2.8), Conduct Disorder (n=2, % 1,7) and others125 of cases used drug treatment. The most frequent used drugs were antipsychotic (%56) drugs. In order to increase the functionality in the cases, the early diagnosis and determining the treatment with respect to the limited capacity of the patient is important.Key Words: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Mental Retardation.
