Study on the evaluation of the parents’ opinions as to the sport orientation of children

Serdar TEREKL2005The aim of this research is to investigate the parent?s opinions as to thesport orientation of childrens. The research was realised at the public institutionswhich have sport foundations at Eskişehir. The population of this research is the1553 parents of students who are registred at Anadolu Üniversity PhysicalEducation and Sport Faculty sport course, Eskişehir Youth and Sport Associationand 1. Air Force Commandership Yıldız Tepe Lodgings sport couse. 221 parent?individuals who selected with ?Simple Random Sampling? among the students?parent was taken as a research sampling. Research was realized in the surveymodel. Questionnaire, prepared by researcher formed within three parts, which areindividual features with twelve questions to direct towards sports activities withseven questions and evaluating sports game activities with ten questions as?Study on The Determination of The Parents? Opinion As to The SportOrientation of Children? which is prepared by researcher.iIn this research, parent?s expectations from a good tranier, thecontributions of the benefits of sports to children?s growing, parent?s point ofviews regarding the responsibilities of both parents and educational institutionsfor their role in orienting childerns to the sport, their expectations from contents ofsports activity programmes, what will basic reasons be to direct the childrentowards the sports activities and selecting branch in the sports activities,frequency of weekly practising, and supports given by the parent to direct thechildren towards the sport were evaluated based on survey data.Datas were evaluated with statistical procedures such as Frequency,Percent and Chi-Square technigues. In the research, 5 p> .01 and 05 significancelevel was accepted.According to results of research, a big majority of sampling group(%84,6) participating to the research explained that parents expect children toimprove their computational, perceptional and physical features with participatingtheir sports activities. The basic reason of participating to sports activities ischildren should be love sports activitiy which they participate. But there is a pointwhich is should be careful. While parent emphasize that chidren need to lovesports activity which they participate, at the same time it is shown that they selectsport branch themselves instead of their chilren. Parents involved in researchgroup explain that they direct their children to football branch (%23,1) andswimming branch (%21,3), and their children need to do sport in a week three orfour days, Although parent want their children to do three or four days in a week,they say they sometimes watch them with like a rate %50,2 in an activity andthey can?t speak to their children a lot about sport. When the tasks of parent forthe children?s sport orientation were examined, if children was reluctant toparticipate to sport, it was observed that there was least participation of parents topersuade the children to participate to the sport. Moreover, the majority of parentsincluded in survey (81%) wants that the phsycians should approve their children?sparticipate to sport. Besides, it is shown that parents (%43,6) want their childrento do sport at level of professional in next terms. At the same time parent wanttraniers and educators to be supporter and diligent improving their children? sskills to participate their children? s sport.iiIt is fount that there is a statistically significant differences betweenparents? views about children?s participate to sports activities and their childrens?sex.Finally, according to the results of the research, it can be said that parentswant their children to participate sports activities and they emphasize that theseactivities are very important for their children?s growth and they think sport willbe professional job for their children in future.iii
