Abstract (EN)
This study was made as a descriptive study to determine the relationship between childhood trauma and aggression- suicidal behavior in patients with bipolar disorder. This study was conducted with 112 outpatients who were diagnosed with bipolar disorder at remision period in Siirt state hospital between January and June 2018. Personal Information Form, Childhood Trauma Scale (CTS), Buss-Perry Aggression Scale (BPAS) and Suicide Probability Scale (SPS) were used in order to collect the data. It was determined that patients with bipolar disorder have 89.3% of physical neglect, 74.1% of emotional neglect, 75.9% of physical abuse, 79.5% of emotional abuse and 40.2% of sexual abuse. It was assessed that the total score of CTS is 66,8±19,2, the total score of BPAS is 94,6±28,8 and the total score of SPS is 85,3±17,9. It was detected a significant positive correlation between CTS, BPAS and SPS statistically (p<0.05). There was a weak positive relationship between BPAS, CTS (r= ,325**; p<0.05) and subscale of CTS which are emotional abuse (r= ,350**; p<0.05), physical abuse (r= ,354**; p<0.01), physical neglect (r= ,313**; p<0.01) and emotional neglect (r= ,316**; p<0.01). There was no relationship between BPAS and sexual abuse, subscale of CTS (p=,114). It was observed statistically a significant difference between whether the regular use of drugs, violence against others and total score of CTS, BPAS and SPS (p<0.05). It was determined that the aggression and suicide attempts of bipolar patients are related with the trauma situation that they experienced in childhood. It is suggested that patients diagnosed with biopolar disorder should be evaluated with regards to childhood trauma history by taking into consideration sociodemographic characteristics and psychiatric support for them in order to prevent aggression and suicide attempts.
