Tendency of a child towards reading and techniques for readings

This study investigates reading techniques and the steps necessary to imbue good reading habits in children of normal intelligence, linguistic ability, physique and psychology who have already learnt how to read, by means of reading materials in the child's free time outside school. The Introduction to mis study outlines attitudes to chicken's reading in Turkey, the view of the Education Ministry on this matter, and attitudes in other countries. Section One covers social and individual actors affecting reading, theories of development, detailed enumeration of the reading phases in a child's development, and the characteristics of these phases. Section Two covers the necessary formal and internal features of books, the quality of children's literature in Turkey, the books which are most widely-read and most attract children's interest, and an assessment of these from the point of view of child development Section Three deals briefly with methods and techniques to increase reading proficiency in the education of children who already know how to read. The details of the research data used in tins study are given in the 'Appendix Section'. Comprehensive research into Turkish Literature and the child reader was not found, hi order to clarify the reading habits of primary school children, this study utilised the results and evaluation of a Reading Habits Survey applied to 197 children by Assistant Professor Üstün Dökmen, together with a survey and evaluation by Hüseyin fimin of 1000 children to discover the books most-liked and most-often read
