The effect of activities based on the multiple methods on the teaching of creatures' categorization theme to the kids at the age of 48-60 months

The purpose of this study made is to be determined of the efficiencies of the activities applied for the kids at the age of 48-60 months related with the theme of "The Effect of Activities Based on the Multiple Methods on the Teaching of Creatures' Categorization Theme to the Kids at the Age of 48-60 Months. The research was made according to the quantitative approach and semi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in this study. The sample of this study was selected through the method of easily accessible sampling and was executed on two classes, one of which consisted of 18 students as the experiment group and the other consisted of 19 students as the control group, including children at the age of 48-60 months having education at Vilayetler Hizmet Birliği Preschool in the city center of Kastamonu through the academic year of 2015-2016. The negotiation form with the theme of "Creatures and Categorization of Them" developed by the researcher was used as the data gathering tool and questions in this negotiation form related with the creatures were directed to the children and the answers of children were recorded vocally and in writing. This study consists of two parts. In the first part, the activities with the theme of "Creatures and Categorization of Them" and the negotiation form were formed. The activities were prepared by the researcher and preschool teachers in accordance with the preschool skills and indicators and the opinions of three different experts were taken in order to determine its validity. And in the second part, the negotiation form with the theme of "Creatures and Categorization of Them" was applied to the control and experiment group as the pretest. Thereafter, activities based on the multiple-methods were applied to the experiment group and activities in conformity with the normal academic program were applied to the control group. The main application lasted for eight weeks. At the end of the application, the negotiation form with the theme of "Creatures and Categorization of Them" was applied as posttest. As a result of this study, it was analyzed with the test of Mann-Whitney U test that there was any difference between pretest and posttest marks of the experiment and control groups. In consequence of the statistical analyses, it was determined that there was no difference between the pretest marks of the experiment and control groups, however there was a meaningful difference (p<0,05) in favor of the experiment group in terms of post-test marks. With reference to these findings, it can be said that the activities with the theme of "Creatures and Categorization of Them" based on the multiple-methods applied on the children at the ages of 48-60 months are effective over the children concerned.
