Effect of celiac disease on desire to avoid pregnancy and quality of sexual life: A comparative study

Aim: The research was conducted to determine the effect of celiac disease on the desire to avoid pregnancy and the quality of sexual life. Material and Method: The sample of this comparative cross-sectional study consisted of women with celiac disease in Kilis province. A total of 78 married women participated in the research. The research was conducted between March 2023 and June 2024. Data were collected with the "Personal Information Form", "Desire to Avoid Pregnancy Measure (DAPM)", "Quality of Sexual Life Scale (SQLQ-F)". In statistical analysis of data; Percentage distribution, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, chi-square, Kruskal Wallis, t test in independent groups, correlation and regression analysis were used according to normality test. Results: In our study, it was determined that the average DAPM score of celiac patients was lower than the control group, but the difference between the groups was not significant (p > 0.05). In addition, it was found that the mean SQLQ-F score in celiac patients was lower than in the control group, but the difference between the groups was not significant (p > 0.05). In the study, it was seen that the relationship between the mean scores of the Desire to Avoid Pregnancy Measure and the Sexual Quality of Life Scale was insignificant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: In the study, it was seen that celiac disease had no effect on pregnancy desire and sexual life quality in women. Keywords: Sexuality, Celiac disease, Pregnancy, Quality of life
